With the BBC’s The Great British Bake Off finally back on our screens, we thought we’d celebrate by sharing some top baking tips and recipes.
Range cookers are fantastic for baking. Dual-fuel, electric and gas models all come with great features, so making cakes, desserts and bread is easy and enjoyable.
Gas was once the preferred fuel type for baking due to its moist heat. However with advances in cooking technology, dual-fuel and electric cookers are now just as popular. And if they’re good enough for Mary Berry, Paul Hollywood and their team of bakers, they’re good enough for us.
With the cold autumn evenings drawing in, why not perfect your baking skills with some winter warming treats?
Magnificent Mince Pies:
Impress family and friends this Christmas with irresistible crumble top mince pies. These traditional festive snacks can be made in just under an hour. All you need is some plain flour, dessert pastry, butter, caster sugar and good quality mincemeat. Add more flavour to your mince pies with mixed spices, cinnamon or ground almonds. To create extra richness, you may also wish to add a splash of brandy or sherry.
Simply pre-heat your range cooker oven to 170°C or gas mark 4 and begin assembling your Christmas treats. Cook for 15 - 20 minutes and sprinkle with caster sugar for the finishing touch.
Retro Rum Baba:
Throwing a 70s party or fancy baking something a bit different? Rum Babas are delicious small yeast cakes saturated in dark rum and filled with cream. Dating back to the 1970s, this French dessert is perfect for creating a taste of nostalgia.
